Periodontal Treatments

Gum disease isn’t a life sentence. Even if you have been diagnosed with a severe case of periodontal disease, the dentists at Two Aces Dentistry can provide you with treatment options that will make your mouth look and feel healthy once again. While we start with non-invasive treatments, we do offer surgery for severe cases. Each situation is unique, which is why we offer a variety of treatment options. Contact Two Aces Dentistry for a consultation. One of our dentists will meet with you to assess your needs and come up with a treatment plan made specifically for you.

Non-Surgical Treatment

In many cases, our dentists can treat gum disease with a non-surgical deep-cleaning treatment called scaling and root planing. During this procedure, one of our dental care providers uses an ultrasonic cleaning device to remove plaque and tartar from under the gum line. Once the plaque and tartar are removed, the dentist smooths out the surface of the tooth and the root. This process makes it easier for the gum tissue to reattach to the tooth.

If we catch your gum disease early, this treatment will likely be all that you need. It is important that you take care of your teeth, so you don’t have a reoccurrence, though. You should brush and floss every day and keep regular appointments with your dentist at Two Aces Dentistry The combination of home care and regular dental appointments should keep you free of gum disease after your treatment.

Surgical Treatment Options

If the tissue and bone surrounding your teeth are severely damaged, you’ll need to go with a surgical treatment option. A dentist from Two Aces Dentistry will assess the condition of your teeth and gums and then recommend a surgical treatment option.

Pocket Depth Reduction

Gum disease creates pockets around your teeth. The pockets collect bacteria, which causes more severe damage to the teeth and gums. Eventually, the damage will become so great that your teeth will fall out or your dentist will have to remove them.

A pocket depth reduction is a good option if you have gum disease. During this procedure, we fold back the gums and remove the bacteria, hardened plaque, tartar, and damaged tissue. Then, we sew the healthy tissue back into place. As the gums heal, they can reattach to the teeth.

Regeneration

If you have severe gum disease, you might experience bone and tissue loss. We can restore these areas with a regeneration procedure. We start by folding back the gums and removing the bacteria, plaque, and tartar. Then, we will either perform a bone graft to stimulate new growth or apply a special kind of protein that stimulates tissue growth to repair the areas that have been destroyed by the disease. Once it heals, your mouth should be back to normal.

Soft-Tissue Graft

Gum recession often occurs with gum disease. When this happens, the roots are exposed. The roots are sensitive to hot and cold liquids and foods, so this is very uncomfortable. Also, the roots are exposed to bacteria, tartar, and plaque, which can cause additional damage. A soft-tissue graft can reverse this damage.

Your dentist will take tissue from the top of your mouth or another source and sew it to your gum area. This will cover the roots and restore the gum line to its original location.

While this procedure is typically performed for medical reasons, some of our patients also choose to get it done for cosmetic reasons.

Regardless of the procedure you need, Two Aces Dentistry can help. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.
